Confession: I had to read a BOOK about blogging
I'm setting up this blog 0n February 21, 2009, in anticipation of using it for a BIG TRIP I'm planning to take in April and May. My 26 year old son, Alex and I are going around the world on a 3-week trip called the "Global Scavenger Hunt". I want to be able to blog our experiences as they come at us - fast. I bought "The Huffington Post Complete Guide to Blogging". My 16 year old son Max thinks it's hysterically funny that I bought a BOOK about blogging. Yes Max, I bought the book, read the book, and even underlined stuff that I thought was worth trying to remember.
I love the Huffington Post Rules for Great Blogging, which I will try to remember:
1. Blog often
2. Perfect is the enemy of done (my favorite)
3. Write like you speak
4. Focus on specific details
5. Own your topic
6. Know your audience (not sure I have that one down yet)
7. Write short
8. Become part of the conversation with like-minded bloggers (no idea how that's going to play out -- I'm setting up this blog so I can use it instead of email and postcards to keep in touch and share the experiences that Alex and I will have on this trip we're taking).
Taking rule #2 seriously, I'm signing off to go out to dinner, then to see The Reader, and then to see Improv Jones. After all, it's Saturday night.
